Propane Safety: Forklift Safety

For safe operation:


Maintain adequate ventilation in facilities forklifts will be in use

Safe handling of propane

Keep up on regular forklift maintenance

Keep employees up to date on training

Perform a thorough safety check of equipment before each use

When exchanging the cylinder, personel must wear protective equipment including gloves, and safety glasses

People who have not been properly trained should never attempt to exchange a propane cylinder.

All people responsible for operating forklifts and changing cylinders must have forklift manufacturer operator safety training courses and be up to Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) standards.


Do not use metal tools when changing cylinder

Do not let the cylinder get too hot

Do not drag, drop, roll, slide, or bang cylinder against other objects

Do not use flames, or any head source to check for leaks

Do not use more than 2 LPG cylinders on a forklift truck
